Getting Started
5 questions
Woodshedder is a comprehensive web application designed specifically for guitarists and other stringed instrument players. It helps you organize your learning resources, track practice sessions, and manage multiple versions of tunes from various instructors and sources all in one centralized location.
Creating an account is simple and free! Click the 'Create Account' button on our homepage, enter your email address, choose a unique profile name, and create a secure password. No credit card is required to get started.
We offer a free trial to get you started. After the trial period, Woodshedder operates on a monthly subscription model to provide you with ongoing features, storage, and support. We believe in transparent pricing with no hidden fees.
Woodshedder has been tested on Chrome, Safari, Edge and FireFox. It may work on other browsers, but has only been tested on these.
While we're initially focused on guitarists, Woodshedder works great for any stringed instrument including mandolin, banjo, ukulele, and more. Our tablature and resource management features are designed to be flexible for various stringed instruments.
Managing Your Music Library
5 questions
Navigate to your Library and click 'Add New Tune'. Enter the tune name, and then you can add different versions with specific details like composer, performer, instructor, tuning, and capo position. You can attach YouTube videos, Guitar Pro files, and tablature PDFs to each version.
Absolutely! You can tag your tunes and versions with categories like genre (bluegrass, folk, country), techniques (crosspicking, flatpicking), difficulty level, and more. This makes it easy to filter and find exactly what you're looking for.
You can attach multiple types of resources to each tune version: YouTube performance videos (just paste the URL), audio recordings (upload MP3 or other audio files), Guitar Pro filestablature PDFs, and web links to additional resources. Everything stays organized in one place.
This is one of our key features! Create a master tune entry, then add multiple versions underneath it. For example, you might have a Bryan Sutton version, a Tony Rice version, and a beginner-friendly version of 'Red Haired Boy' all organized under the same tune.
Each tune version has a status (Not Started, Learning, Comfortable, Mastered) and tracks when you last practiced. Your dashboard shows recent practice activity and current projects.
Troubleshooting

Usually, this is due to copyright restrictions place on the video by the content creator. The creator has the right to not allow their video to play in “embedded mode”. You will still be able to play it in on the YouTube site, but it will open in a separate browser window. Another problem users sometimes run into is around “personal” YouTube libraries. If you want to add personal YouTube videos, YouTube recommends marking your videos on the platform as "unlisted" instead of "private". Unlisted videos don't appear in search results or on your channel, but anyone with the direct link can view them and they can be embedded on any site. The key requirement is ensuring "Allow embedding" is activated in the video settings on YouTube.
Woodshedder works great on tablets. However, the current version is not ideal on mobile phones. Future releases will address this issue.
Sharing & Community
2 questions
Yes! You can create shareable links for any tune version that allow others to view the resources even if they don't have an account. This is perfect for sharing with jam buddies or students. Shared links can be set to expire or remain permanent.
No! Anyone with a shared tune link can view the resources without creating an account. However, some features like saving loops will be limited for non-users. Recipients will see prominent invitations to create their own account to unlock full features.
